According to the former U.S. diplomat, if Iranians reject Islamist governance, it could deal “a death blow” to the Muslim Brotherhood and more broadly to Islamist ideologies across the region, including in Iraq.
In his view, much of the younger generation increasingly aspires to models of modernization such as that of the United Arab Emirates, rather than to political projects driven by Islamism.
